Veteran Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was at his lethal best during Australia’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against Sri Lanka on Thursday (October 28). While the track at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium was expected to favour the spinners, Starc bowled some breathtaking deliveries as the Lankan batters struggled against him constantly. As far as his figures are concerned, the left-arm speedster took two wickets in his quota of four overs, conceding mere 27 runs.
While Starc unleashed many thunderbolts in the game, his toe-crushing yorker to dimiss Kusal Perera stands head and shoulders above all. It was the 11th over of Sri Lanka’s innings and the southpaw had settled his feet, batting at 35 off 24 deliveries. He had also played some big shots in the last few overs. In fact, he smashed Starc for a six just a delivery before falling prey to him.

While the dasher looked all set to play a substantial knock, Starc bowled his vintage yorker and brought curtains to Perera’s stay. It was an inswinging delivery that went to smash the base of the middle stump. Despite trying to defend, the left-handed batter couldn’t even touch the ball as the Lankans lost their third batter.

Starc was pretty pleased with his efforts as he backed his teammates to cross the line. “Nice to have a couple come out. Took a few overs to get there. Couple of partnerships there but I thought we dragged them back nicely after the powerplay. It’s a pretty average score for this wicket. Hopefully we can chase it down,” said Starc.
“Our first game here, few guys have played in the IPL. Definitely have got firepower in the shed, few partnerships and hopefully we’re on the better side of it by the end of the night,” he added. Meanwhile, the Lankan side did pretty well by posting 154/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Besides Perera scoring 35, Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa also scored in excess of 30.
Speaking of the other Aussie bowlers, Adam Zampa and Pat Cummins also got a couple of wickets. With the tournament witnessing a plethora of low-scoring games, the Lankans would back themselves to defend this total.
