5. Chetan Sakariya
Well, this might be the most outlandish but it isn’t impossible if you really think hard about it. There are things that Sakariya can offer which no other pacers in this current Indian team can provide. The young pacer from Saurashtra has shown his ability to bowl good lines consistently and wait for the rewards.
So far, in his seven-match IPL journey, Sakariya has already bowled in challenging conditions, against all odds, and also bowled the tough overs. What has been the most interesting thing about his bowling is the ability to bowl variations. He has two or possibly three types of slower balls under his variations. One of them is the conventional back of the hand slower one (which has become quite rare today), while he also has an off-cutter.
Now, India does have Shardul Thakur who bowls the back of the handball, while Jasprit Bumrah is the master of the off-cutter, but both of them are right-handed bowlers. What is mainly unique about Sakariya is the angle which he provides. And, one can argue with T Natarajan, but he is more of a yorker specialist and there is obviously an injury concern with him. Given these things, one may be tempted to consider Sakariya for the T20 World Cup.
