T20 World Cup 2021: Prize Money won by each participating team in the tournament

14th NOVEMBER 2021. Every Australian fan will remember this date with a sense of pride and joy. For, Aaron Finch and his men created history in the deserts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the summit clash of the 2021 T20 World Cup to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title.

Even though the New Zealand side posted a mammoth total of 172/4 on the board, the kangaroos kept their cool in the run chase and went past the finish line.

Now, let us come to the finances involved in the tournament, and look at the prize money that each side will get. The total prize money of the 2021 T20 World Cup is $5.6 Million (INR 42 Crores). And, this prize money will be divided among the 16 participating teams of the tournament.

The winners, Australia will receive a total amount of INR 13.1 Crores (INR 11.9 Crores for winning the tournament and an additional INR 1.2 Crores for winning 4 out of their 5 league matches in the Super 12 stages). On the other hand, New Zealand will receive an amount of INR 7.15 Crores (INR 5.95 Crores for ending up as the runners-up and an additional INR 1.2 Crores for posting 4 wins in the Super 12 stages).

The 2 semifinalists of the tournament, England and Pakistan are slated to receive a sum of $400000 each (INR 3 Crores). Apart from that, Pakistan will receive an additional amount of INR 1.5 Crores for posting 5 wins in the Super 12 stages (total INR 4.5 Crores), while England will receive an additional amount of INR 1.2 Crores for winning 4 out of their 5 Super 12 matches (total INR 4.2 Crores).

And then, there come the other 8 teams that could not qualify beyond the Super 12 stages of the tournament. South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh from Group A, and India, Afghanistan, Namibia, and Scotland from Group B were eliminated from the tournament in the Super 12 stages of the competition.

And, each team that qualified for the Super 12 stages of the tournament is slated to receive a sum of $70000 (INR 52 Lakhs). Apart from that, for each win posted in the Super 12 stages of the tournament, the teams will receive $40000 (INR 30 Lakhs) per match. So, for e.g., the Indian cricket team will earn a total of INR 1.42 Crores (INR 52 Lakhs for reaching the Super 12 stages and an additional 90 Lakhs for posting 3 wins in the Super 12 stages).

How much will the teams that played the qualifying rounds get?

Also, there were 4 teams that played the T20 World Cup qualifiers but did not qualify for the Super 12 stages. And, these 4 teams are Oman, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and The Netherlands. Each of these teams will receive $40000 (INR 30 Lakhs), and an additional $40000 (INR 30 Lakhs) for each win posted in the qualifying stages of the tournament.

For e.g., Sri Lanka played the qualifiers and then qualified for the Super 12 stages of the tournament. So, the Sri Lankan side will earn a total of INR 2.02 Crores (INR 52 Lakhs for qualifying for the Super 12 stages, INR 60 Lakhs for posting 2 wins in the Super 12 stages, and an additional INR 90 Lakhs for winning all their 3 qualifying matches that preceded the Super 12 stages).

Whereas, the Ireland side, that did not qualify for the Super 12 stages of the tournament will receive an amount of INR 60 Lakhs. (INR 30 Lakhs for getting eliminated from the tournament in the qualifying stages, and INR 30 Lakhs for posting one victory in the qualifying stages).
