The selectors dropping leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal from the T20 World Cup squad came as a shock for many. The chief selector Chetan Sharma had then stated that they wanted a bowler who could be bowl faster in the air and hence they preferred Rahul Chahar ahead of Chahal. However, the Haryana spinner responded strongly to the axe performing extremely well in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
BCCI is expected to announce the updated squad for the World Cup by October 15 and while all the eyes are on Hardik Pandya’s selection, there could be yet another change. Chahal performing well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) might have worked in favour of him and there are chances that he might break into the WC squad.
The 31-year-old, on Wednesday (October 13), posted a story on his official Instagram account from the hotel ‘The Palm’ where team India players are staying in the T20 World Cup 2021. Chahal posted a picture of the view from the his hotel room and this clearly hints at him getting picked for the mega event.
Here’s his story:
Chahal picked 14 wickets in the UAE leg
Yuzvendra Chahal scalped at least a wicket in every match during the UAE leg of the IPL 2021. Overall, in 8 matches, he accounted for 14 wickets at an average of 13.14 and an economy of 6.13 in the second leg. He conceded more than 30 runs in his four-over spell only once during this period.
On the contrary, Rahul Chahar who is currently the part of the World Cup squad didn’t have a great time. He played only four matches for Mumbai Indians and was dropped later due to his poor form. Chahar could only scalp two wickets in four matches and was expensive as well. With Chahal already in team India’s hotel, we might see him breaking into the squad but it also remains to be seen if Chahar gets dropped.
