T20 World Cup: Pitch curator of New Zealand vs Afghanistan clash passes away
India's fate also depends upon this game.
In what can be called an unfortunate development, the curator who prepared the pitch for the New Zealand vs Afghanistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2021 has been found dead. Stakes are incredibly high in the contest as the result would decide the fate of both teams alongside India. A win for New Zealand would see India getting knocked out of the semi-final race.
Hence, millions of Indian fans would be following the contest. However, the unfortunate part is the curator, Mohan Singh, who prepared the track for the high-voltage game is no more. Although the reason for the death isn’t known yet, the local police are investigating the matter. Notably, the match is taking place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Mohan Singh came to Abu Dhabi about a decade ago
As per Cricbuzz, Mohan is an Indian and prepared the game for the crucial game. He shifted to UAE about a decade ago after working in India. Daljit Singh, the former chief curator of BCCI, has mourned Mohan’s demise. It is very shocking news, he was very well known to me. He was very a hard-working, committed, and ambitious person. My condolences to the family,” Daljit was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“He would be in touch with me regularly and I will check with his family,” a shocked Daljit further said. Speaking of the behavior of the track, it has a few cracks. Hence, spinners would come handy in these conditions.
“The wicket is going to be slow, it’s the same pitch that was used yesterday for Australia vs West Indies. It has a few cracks, so batting might be challenging. The third match to be played on this track” was the pitch report as per Cricbuzz.
With Afghanistan having services of Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Rashid Khan, many believe the Afghan side has a very good chance of winning the contest. Notably, former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar had said that a lot of questions would be raised if the Kiwis lose the crucial game. He apparently meant claims of match-winning would come in.
“If God forbid, they don’t play well and lose, that will be a problem. Nobody will be able to stop social media if it happens and we have to take that into consideration,” Akhtar had said on his YouTube channel.
