The ninth season of the all-exciting Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to kickstart on January 6, 2023 that will run till February 16. Comilla Victorians are the reigning champions of the league as they emerged victorious against Fortune Barishal in the previous edition. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to hold the tournament in five phases on the basis of venues which essentially means that Dhaka will host the first phase followed by Chittagong taking over the venue for the second phase.
The action will return to Dhaka once again for the third phase and the elimination rounds whereas the fourth round will be hosted in Sylhet. Going by the BPL Schedule, a total of 46 matches is to be played in the month-long competition with the opening match and the finals played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
Unlike the previous seasons which had six teams contesting for the title, the ninth edition will see the return of Rangpur Riders after two seasons. The teams participating in the lucrative T20 league are- Chattogram Challengers, Comilla Victorians, Dhaka Dominators, Fortune Barishal, Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and Sylhet Strikers. The seven teams fighting for the coveted title will play the traditional double round-robin format followed by the playoffs. The elimination rounds will see the top four teams in the BPL Points Table locking horns in the Eliminator and Qualifiers round to cement a spot in the summit clash for the coveted title.
