T20 World Cup 2024 Most Wickets
Though T20 is all about big sixes and many runs, in the end, bowlers come into play to defend a small total and give their team crucial breakthroughs to guide them to victory. The batters in the T20 World Cup Most Runs list have failed against some exceptional bowling performances over the years of the tournament. In many instances, bowlers have turned the game around with their incredible skills.
The experienced all-rounder from Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan, tops the list of most wickets in the T20 World Cup with 47 wickets in 36 matches. Shakib's, accuracy, and ability to bowl those tough overs have made him a valuable asset for the Bangladeshi team. His best bowling figures of 4/9 came in the 2021 edition against Papua New Guinea.
The legendary Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi, known for his explosive all-round abilities, has also been a formidable bowler in the T20 World Cup. The Pakistani all-rounder has claimed 39 wickets in 34 matches, with his best figures of 4/11, and he could pick up crucial wickets at crucial junctures.
Sri Lanka's pace spearhead, Lasith Malinga, cannot be missed in this list as he has 38 wickets in 31 matches. Malinga's unorthodox and sling-arm bowling action added with the ability to bowl yorkers with pinpoint accuracy have made him a nightmare for batters. At times when Malinga faced the likes of explosive batters having T20 World Cup Most Centuries, the pacer came on top more often than not, and gave early breakthroughs to the team.
The off-spinner from Pakistan, Saeed Ajmal, had a crucial role to play for the team, especially in the T20 World Cup. With 36 wickets in 23 matches, Ajmal's variations and deception have troubled the best of batters.
Another Sri Lankan in the list is the former spinner Ajantha Mendis, known for his mysterious line and lengths. The leg-spinner had claimed 35 wickets in 21 matches, with his best figures of 6/8. He had the skill to bowl those carom balls and deceive batters with a slow spin.
