The former Indian cricketer TA Sekar has stepped down as the director of the Delhi Daredevils franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was associated with them since the inception of the lucrative tournament and helped the team take some tough conditions while he was at the helm. However, Sekar has cleared the decision was taken citing the personal reasons and it had nothing to do with the team’s performance.
Two things stood in common for Daredevils for all these 10 years, first was, they never lifted the trophy despite having enough potential and second one was the presence of Sekar around the team. He was also a great influence on the franchise during the IPL auctions and assisted the team management to pick crucial players in the side. The youngsters like Manprit Juneja and Pawan Negi were spotted during his term and were awarded the IPL contract for their impressive performances in the domestic cricket.
We respect Sekar’s decision
The chief executive of Daredevils Hemant Dua confirmed the news of TA Sekar resigning from the position and also cleared that the franchise respects his decision. “”We respect Sekar’s decision. We are naturally very disappointed to not have Sekar in our midst going forward, but as a franchise we clearly understand his position. Sekar was an invaluable asset to the franchise and his departure leaves a vacuum that will be difficult to fill,” he said.
TA Sekar too was equally disappointed for leaving Delhi Daredevils and stated that it was very tough for him to make the decision. “It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I’m grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege being part of the franchise since its inception in 2008,” he said of his tenure with the franchise which lasted for 10 years.
