Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has been busy working hard on her upcoming film Shabaash Mithu which is a biographical film based on the life of Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj. Taapsee is playing the lead role in the biopic. She has been keeping the fans updated about her preparation for the movie by sharing several pictures from her practice sessions.

Last week, she took to Instagram to post pictures of her training. In the pictures, she is seen wearing a white tee and black tights paired with leg-guards and gloves. In both the pictures, she is seen with a bat as she looks to play the role of Mithali to perfection. But amidst all these, she recently lashed out at a publication after it made a gaffe while referring to Mithali Raj

Taapsee, who rarely shies away from giving her opinions on social media, was not impressed with the publication after they referred to the legendary cricketer as a ‘former’ Team India cricketer. Taapsee noticed the mistake on Twitter and was quick to slam the publication for the same. Responding to the mistake, she pointed out that Mithali Raj is still the captain of the women’s cricket team that is going to play the upcoming World Cup.

She further wrote that this very lack of awareness about women in sports is exactly why biopics like these should be made. “You do realise she is still the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team that’s going for the upcoming World Cup. Exactly the reason why this film NEEDS TO BE MADE! ‘Former’!!! #ShabaashMithu,” tweeted Taapsee Pannu.

Here’s the tweet:

One of the greatest

Talking about Mithali Raj, she needs a little introduction. The legendary batter is one of the greatest women players to have graced the game. Mithali made her ODI debut against Ireland in 1999 when she was only 16 and scored a century. At present, she is the top-scorer in women’s ODIs. So far, she has scored 6,888 runs with the help of seven centuries and 53 half-centuries.

The batting great is also the all-time leading run-scorer for India across all formats. She is the only Indian captain (male or female) to have led the team in two different ODI World Cup finals (2005 and 2017). Mithali will be eyeing to win her first-ever World Cup when she leads the team in the ODI World Cup next year.
