Tabraiz Shamsi extends his support to South Africa's women's team
Just like any other bowler, Shamsi was elated to watch a brilliant spell of bowling.
South African chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi has bamboozled quite a lot of batsmen in the domestic circuit and he knows how it feels when the batsman is left clueless. Just like any other bowler, even Shamsi gets elated when he watches a brilliant spell of bowling and when his country’s women were all over the West Indies on Sunday, he couldn’t restrain himself from tweeting the same.
“Our girls are on fire this morning.. show them some love,” his tweet read. He also posted a video of Marizanne Kapp’s spectacular one-handed catch off her own bowling to dismiss the opener, Rieniece Boyce. He also used a hashtag “Protea Queens”, which embodies how proud he is of their cricketers.
South Africa entered the World Cup with a brilliant unit and they need to put up more such performances in the coming matches to ensure they give a tough fight to the other favourites in the tournament. Their bowlers were on a roll on Sunday in the Women’s World Cup group stage encounter against West Indies at Leicester. After a dismal show against India, Windies failed to pull anything back in their favour and instead, things worsened for the ladies from the Caribbean.
A decent start for the Proteas
The South African women are off to a decent start in their World Cup campaign. After getting the better of their Pakistani opponents in a nail-biting opening game, their match against New Zealand women was abandoned due to rain.
Their performance against West Indies has been spectacular, especially with the ball. They managed to pick the first five Windies wickets with just 16 runs on the board. Both their openers Laura Wolvaardt and Lizelle Lee registered half-centuries against Pakistan.
If their middle order manages to fire in the coming games, they will be quite a force to reckon with. It will be interesting to see how far South Africa can progress as decent sides don’t win you World Ccups, but great teams do.
