Throwback: When Tabraiz Shamsi flaunted his magic trick on a TV show

Tabraiz Shamsi has taken the entire social media by storm with another off-beat celebration on a cricket field. But, this time, Shamsi, even by his very high standard, the left-arm transcended the boundaries of the realms of reality.

It all happened when Tabraiz Shamsi pulled off his magician moniker during a Mzansi Super League encounter between Paarl Rocks and Durban Heat. After dismissing Wihaan Lubbe, the South African took out a piece of cloth from his pocket and in a matter of seconds turned it into a mini sword.

The left-armer talked about the celebration and also his penchant towards magic. Shamsi said, “I have always been fascinated by magic and different tricks. From the age of about 15 or 16, I wanted to become a magician as it was a hobby of mine. Entertaining on the field is just my way of taking the pressure off myself and being able to enjoy things. I feel like when I am myself, I am able to play my best cricket.”

And, so with Shamsi’s video going viral on social media, an old video emerged on Youtube where Shamsi could be seen in a talk-show where he opened up about how he has been practicing magic since his childhood days. The leg-spinner also flaunted one of his magic tricks.

“Yea, When I realize, I wasn’t that good at cricket, I wanted a backup plan. No! But, I actually wanted to be a magician. It wasn’t just a phase as a small child, probably till the age of 16-17, and then cricket sort of took over, so I stopped practicing. So, whatever I try today, if it doesn’t work out, I have been practicing for ten years…Naah, it’s gonna work out, I am gonna bamboozle you with something,” Shamsi said on The Dan Nicholl Show.

Then, Shamsi proceeded to take a deck of cards and asked the anchor to stop whenever he wanted him to. Shamsi then asked the anchor to pick any one card from the deck. He further asked him to shuffle the cards after placing the chosen card anywhere in the deck.

The leg-spinner then gave three taps to the deck and told the anchor that once he does that, the latter’s chosen card will emerge at the top, and it did. On being asked as Shamsi said, “Funny thing is, you thought that you were the in charge of this trick, telling me when to stop! Even though it’s your show, I am running this bit, I was actually controlling you. I actually made you stop at a specific point”

Shamsi revealed that he had written something down and sealed in the envelope before he started the trick and asked the anchor to open it, where it was clearly written ‘Ace of Spades’.
