IPL Auction 2025

On October 31, all the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises unveiled their list of retained players and managed to churn out substantial dividends from the INR 120-crore purse allotted to them by the BCCI. India’s lucrative league will enter its 18th edition with IPL 2025 and the latest edition will see a mega auction before the 10 teams vie for the coveted title.

The mega auction of the latest edition will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. The player registration process for the same concluded on November 4. As it stands out, a whopping total of 1574 players have registered their names, including 1165 Indian and 409 overseas players.

The list also comprises 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations. Apart from India, players from South Africa have dominated the registered players roster with 91 of them showing interest. They are followed by 76 players from Australia and 52 players from West Indies with players from other countries also joining the fray.

It is worth noting that, a franchise can have a maximum of 25 players in its squad with the total number of foreign players capped at eight. The BCCI has issued a stern warning to overseas players ahead of the auction. It has stated that overseas players who fail to enrol for the mega auction would not be allowed to feature in the subsequent mini auctions. For the unversed, a mega auction is conducted once in every three years.

Moreover, in another regulation, the BCCI stated that a foreign player who refuses to show up after getting picked in the auction, shall be banned for two years from taking part in the IPL. This comes in order to avoid the franchise from being ripped off from their desired team combinations and also stop mid-tournament departures.
