The Tamil Nadu Premiere League is all set to kick off this week. The short tournament spanning 23 days will see eight teams competing in three venues across Tamil Nadu. Recently, Indian captain MS Dhoni unveiled the TNPL trophy at an event organised in Chennai.

The league may see international players like Vijay, Ashwin and also the likes of Balaji and Karthik who have donned the Indian jersey for a considerable period of time.

However, there is a lot of concern going on as the TNPL commences as the board is still waiting confirmation from the BCCI regarding the player participation. The Cricket Association had earlier requested the BCCI to grant it permission to field outstation cricketers, who have jobs and ration cards in Tamil Nadu, in the Twenty20 league beginning from 24th August.

It had also appealed to the BCCI to release Tamil Nadu cricketers, not picked in the eleven for the Duleep Trophy games, so that they are available for the TNPL matches.

“Instead of sitting idle there, they can come here and play a few games. But the BCCI has not got back to us and there is very little time remaining,” a TNCA official was quoted as saying.

It would be interesting to know if BCCI responds positively to the request of the TNPL related to player participation. This would be a huge boost for all the cricket fans in Tamil Nadu who have missed the T20 action throughout the summer, as the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings was suspended for two years.
