Tamil Nadu all-rounder and the incredibly talented youngster Vijay Shankar is banging the doors of the selectors and soon, he might break through. The 26-year-old is one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket and boasts of being one of the best three-dimensional cricketers in the country. His next big test lies in the Ranji Trophy when his side will lock horns with Mumbai in the third round encounters.

Unfortunately for him, chances didn’t come in good numbers. He represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL under the dynamic leadership of David Warner. He did play a few games here and there, but he didn’t spend enough time in the crease to showcase his talent. He only registered one half-century against the Gujarat Lions in this edition’s IPL.

Yet, good times seem to be traveling towards Shankar’s drawing room as he managed to clear the much hyped about Yo-Yo Test with flying colors. Many senior cricketers like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have been kept aside from selection as they have failed to clear this Test, but ready to get into the Indian team.

I don’t know how it happened: Shankar

Speaking to The Hindu, Vijay Shankar suggested he had no clue as to how he cleared the Yo-Yo Test and it just happened. He also suggested that after getting hit by a ball in a match against South Africa A, he, unfortunately, missed out on a lot of opportunities. Shankar registered a score of 18.6 in the Yo-Yo Test, whilst the benchmark remains 16.1.

“There have been times when I have been searching for my rhythm this season with the ball but I am a decidedly a more-rounded bowler now,” said Vijay Shankar.

“I don’t know how it happens. When I was in South Africa with the A-team, I was hit by a ball. Subsequently, I missed a lot of action. I guess I have also been unlucky. A few days back, I gave the Yo-Yo test and I was told that I did 18.5 (benchmark score is 16.1). I was very happy,” he added.
