Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal’s participation in the upcoming series against England has come under doubts after the left-hander sustained a fracture on his ring finger of his left hand. He picked up the injury while fielding at team practice in Mirpur on Saturday. He was taken for an X-ray on Sunday which confirmed the nature of the injury.

It is a bad news considering Bangladesh’s tight upcoming schedule. They have a home series comprising of two Tests and three ODIs against England. An ODI series in mid-September against Afghanistan at home is also been planned. It expected to take place before England arrives at the end of the same month.

BCB’s chief physician Debashish Chowdhury said that Tamim is likely to be ruled out for two to three weeks. But, he is confident for Tamim to recover and be available for selection for both the series.

“He has fractured his ring finger during catching practice,” Chowdhury said. “The good thing is that the fracture did not spread and is in one place. We are hopeful for him to recover within two to three weeks.”

“But then again we also need to see how the fracture behaves; it varies from person to person. Tamim is a strong character and I am hopeful he will be fine before the matches,” said the BCB physician.

Tamim, however, is confident that he will be fit in time for the England series. “I hurt my finger while attempting to go for a catch during yesterday. It hurts as of now, but I am confident that I can come back soon and play the England series. Doctors have said that it will take me around two to three weeks to recover. What I have to do right now is to wait for this fracture to heal. Once that happens I can take the next step,” he told The Daily Star today.
