Tamim Iqbal is targetting Windies series for his comeback
Tamim has begun his batting drills against spin bowling.
Tamim Iqbal, who injured himself in the Asia Cup 2018 seems to be working hard to stage a comeback. The left-hander has been out of the action for a while now. However, he hopes to mark his return to the side in the upcoming Test series against the Windies.
Although Tamim was targetting the second Test against Zimbabwe for his comeback, he felt he wasn’t ready as yet. He only started batting last week with drills against spin bowling. He termed it ‘semi-batting’ and is eager to hit the nets in full force soon enough.
Hopes to be fit for the first Test
“I think I will be fit for the first Test [against West Indies],” Tamim was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “I always wanted to play the second Test against Zimbabwe, at least that was the plan three or four weeks ago. I’m not ready and I don’t think the physio will even permit me. It has just been three days of batting against spin bowling and the dog-stick. It is actually semi-batting what I am doing right now. Unless I start full-fledged nets, it won’t be fair for the team to declare myself fit.”
Tamim Iqbal further added that he wasn’t at ease while playing a few shots. Also, he noted that there is a huge difference between playing spin bowling and facing the pacers. Moreover, he seemed to be disappointed with the team’s performance in the first Test against Zimbabwe and expects them to bounce back hard.
“I haven’t had a full net session. There’s a lot of difference between playing 130-140kph and playing against spin and the dog-stick. As of now, things are looking very positive. In the next three days, there’s going to be a full net session, after which I can tell where I am at,” he said.
