Tamim Iqbal likely to play for Essex in Natwest T20 Blast

Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal has been in a scintillating run of form in the recent past. His heroics in the ongoing edition of the Champions Trophy 2017 saw his team made a historic appearance in the semi-finals of the event. This was the first instance when Bangladesh played a semi-final game of an ICC major event. Tamim was surely an instrumental part of the unit.

His heroics with the bat has seen him earn an offer from the Essex Eagles for the upcoming edition of the Natwest T20 Blast. The T20 competition is scheduled to take place in July. As per the reports in Bdcrictime.com, Tamim Iqbal had earlier spoken to the officials of the Essex team. Now, he has received the offer letter from the management. Whether Tamim accepts it or not remains to be seen. The team of Essex Eagles is led by Netherlands veteran all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate.

If Tamim agrees to be a part of the Essex roster for the tournament, he will be playing with the likes of former England skipper Alastair Cook, all-rounder Ravi Bopara, and spinner Ashar Zaidi. The venue of Chelmsford County Ground will be the home venue for the Essex Eagles. If he plays, this will not be the first time experience for Tamim Iqbal in the English county tournament. Back in the year 2011, he had played 5 games for Nottinghamshire.

Recent form

Talking about the most recent form, Tamim Iqbal finished as the leading run getter for Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy. He finished with 293 runs to his name with scores of 128, 95, and 70 to boast about. His rare failure had come against New Zealand where he had scored a duck.

Needless to say, his fluency and consistency in the English conditions must have caught the attention of the authorities at the Essex management. Tamim’s next international assignment will be against Australia when Bangladesh host the Aussies for 2 Test matches in August.
