Tamim Iqbal wins the hearts of his fans with the sportsmanship spirit
Comilla Victorians won by 12 runs.
Cricket is often referred to as gentleman’s game and it was once again proved on Wednesday during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The T20 tournament is heading towards the business end of the league stages and the contest is heating up with every game. Similarly, the game between Comilla Victorians and Dhaka Dynamites went right down the wire till the last over. However, the match also saw a moment when the game of cricket won over all the action in the middle when Tamim Iqbal called back the dismissed batsman Kevon Cooper despite the game hanging in the balance.
The incident happened during the 18th over of the chase when Dwayne Bravo delivered the second ball of the over. The short of length delivery hit the body of Cooper as the batsmen went for a run. But during the run, both Bravo and Cooper collided and fell to the ground as the wicketkeeper Liton Das affected the run-out at the non-striker’s end. The skipper Tamim Iqbal straight away went to the batsman who started walking away and requested him to return.
But he carried on walking towards the dugout refusing his request as Tamim spoke to both the on-field umpires and the fourth official also got involved in the matter. The umpires then spoke to Cooper and he came back to bat courtesy the wonderful sportsmanship shown by the opposition captain. The collision was not an intended one but still, he called the batsman back and won the hearts of everyone around as the spectators also lauded his efforts.
Comilla won by 12 runs
Kevon Cooper is a renowned big-hitter and could have taken the game away from Comilla Victorians. Dhaka needed 44 when the 18th over began and the match was only a little bit in favour of the bowling side. The game went right down to the wire as the duo of Cooper and Jahurul Islam looked to score some quick runs. But Bravo’s variations were too good for them who defended 21 runs off the final over. Eventually, Tamim’s team won the game by 12 runs but his sportsman spirit was the most discussed point of the day.
