Taskin Ahmed and his wife face racism
The 22-year-old fast bowler was a heartthrob for many females fans and they were heart-broken to hear about his marriage.
The wedding ceremony is one of the best days in one’s life; it is one of those events everyone wants to be memorable for the rest of their lives. But, for Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, the special night was spoiled by his fans as the newlywed couple has been subject to racism.
After returning home from a month-long tour of South Africa, where he had rather forgettable outings bagging only three wickets in seven matches Taskin got married to his longtime girlfriend, Sayeda Rabeya Naima on Friday. Following the wedding ceremony, the cricketer’s social media team posted the picture on his Facebook page hoping for blessings from the fans.
Racist fans are not happy with the way his wife’s look
But, instead, he had to face the backlash from his fans who are not happy with his wife, Naima’s look. However, those racist comments didn’t affect joy of the couple and the two families. However, Taskin is very sad after reading those scathing comments arched against his wife.
The 22-year-old fast bowler was a heartthrob for many female fans, thus many of them vent out their frustration. According to those racists fans, Naima isn’t a beautiful woman, thus Taskin should have chosen someone good-looking. Some fans even criticise Taskin for marrying at such a young age when he needed to focus on his career more.
The newlywed couple have been friends since childhood and they got engaged a year ago as the families of the couple also approved of it. Taskin’s father said that there will be another event to celebrate the marriage as the first was more of a private event that included the closest among the family circle.
However, such racist comments are not new in Bangladesh cricket. Local fans often get angry over the national cricket team for failing to perform at par with the expectations.
