Team India continued their dominion in world cricket this season. After thoroughly convincing performances in the Caribbean and the Sri Lanka, the men in blue kick started their home season in fine fashion with a superlative win against the Australian side. The Indian team thrashed the visiting Aussies 4-1 in the recently concluded ODI series.
With the series win, they escalated to the number one ranking position in the ICC ODI rankings. They had achieved this feat after their win in the third ODI of the same series. It was in Indore where the team had beaten Australia to move to the top of the rankings. However, a defeat in the ODI that followed, at Bengaluru, saw them slip down to number 2 yet again.
Now, when the hosts hammered the visitors in the final ODI of the series at Nagpur, they have moved back to the top of the table. This is a historic feat for team India since they have claimed the top position in both the ICC Test rankings and the ICC ODI rankings. At present, they are placed at the top with 120 rating points to their name.
They have replaced South Africa from the top position. The Proteas team are placed at the second position with 119 rating points. Needless to cite, the point of difference between India and South Africa is very minimal. The Proteas will have a shot at their claim back to the top this month when they host the Bangladesh side for the ODI series.
Bangladesh and South Africa are currently engaged in a Test fixture. At the same time, the Indian team will also get another go at retaining the top spot when they host New Zealand in the upcoming limited overs fixture starting in the third week of the month.
