The biggest celebration of the white ball cricket is going to take place in India. It is expected to restore the original grandeur of the 50-over format. The cricketers are excited for their tourney, as they will get the chance to live some of the greatest moments of their career. The fans are already rooting for their favourites and it is to be seen who will lay their hands on the gold. With each passing year, technology and fashion are merging with the game. The cricketers have become more stylish and they flaunt their personalities in front of their supporters. Now even the playing kits are designed according to the player’s needs and comfortability. As the Men in Blue frequently change their attire for different events taking note of the evolution of World Cup jerseys will merit the technology development. 1. 1992 It was the 5th edition of the World Cup and it was the first time the coloured jerseys were introduced in the cricketing fraternity. New Zealand and Australia were the host countries and Pakistan won their maiden title. The design on the jersey was simple and all the teams wore different variants of the same one. Back then the sport was not that popular and as a result, there was no brand endorsed on the t-shirt. India had a stylish jersey which was dark blue in colour. It consisted of 4 stripes at the upper portion and the remaining portion was kept plain. The logo was believed to project the tropical character of the host nation territories. Among all the nations India’s uniform looked the coolest and there were no numbers at the back. 2. 1996 It was the 6th edition of the tournament and the uniforms became more colourful. This time the host countries were India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and the Lankans lions stunned everybody by lifting the trophy for the first time. The jersey design evolved in the span of 4 years but still, the pattern was similar for all the teams. Some of the famous brands started appearing on the t-shirt. Indian team changed their attire from dark blue to light blue with shades of yellow to compliment it. There were horizontal white stripes and the collar was completely yellow. The jersey consisted of rainbow-coloured arrows running across the chest and the sleeves. There was a Sahara logo on the t-shirt. 3. 1999 This was the 7th edition of the World Cup and most of the countries had gone for bright coloured kits. England was the host nation and their arch-rivals Australia won their second title. Most of the participants had different patterns on their t-shirts and more brands started endorsing the sport. The numbers were introduced for the first time at the back of the jersey and it was represented in black shade. The Indian team made a slight change in their attire as they increased the yellow shade on the jersey. A diagonal yellow pattern with a black border ran across the chest part. The collar part and the cuff part of the t-shirt followed the suit. Again the Sahara logo was a part of the kit, but the uniform did not look too attractive. 4. 2003 The 8th edition of the tournament was the first one to be played in the 21st century. The African nations, South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe hosted the event and the Kangaroos retained their title. The jersey design was upgraded to a new level as most of the teams had striking patterns. The Indian team used the tri-colour of the flag for the first time in their attire. The Men in Blue introduced black patches which mostly ran across the side part and the shoulder part of the jersey. The tri-colour was planted diagonally and it looked like an oil painting. The collar of the t-shirt consisted of a miniature version of the Indian flag and the Sahara logo continued its presence. The new attire became very popular among the audience. 5. 2007 It was the 9th edition of the coveted championship. The inaugural champions, West Indies was the host nation and the Ricky Ponting’s men continued their dominance by winning the title for the third consecutive time. The Indian team donned a light blue jersey. The black patches which were used in the previous edition were removed as the attire mostly consisted of lighter shades. The tri-colour was strapped on the right side of the t-shirt. White shade was used on the sleeves and India was sewn across the middle in yellow. For the full-length sleeve jersey, fancy cuts were provided at the back side of the elbow part. The pattern looked simple and the Sahara logo was bigger. 6. 2011 The 10th edition of the World Cup was held in the cricket loving country, India. This was the first time that the host nation of the event emerged victoriously, and it is a special one for the Indian fans. The blue shade became darker which gave the jersey a charming look. The tri-colour was strapped on both sides of the t-shirt. The orange shade became prominent on the jersey and it blended nicely with the dark blue colour. The back end of the t-shirt consisted of designer stripes. Along with the logo of Sahara, Nike also made its presence felt on the attire. The text was represented in the orange shade in this jersey. 7. 2015 Australia and New Zealand hosted the 11th edition of the World Cup. The Kangaroos won their record fifth title and became the second country to win the trophy on the home soil. All the teams had eye-catching kits but the Indian team jersey stood out. The design got a complete makeover as the tri-colour straps were removed. The blue shade was similar to the 2011 attire and even the design was quite simple. The team name was written in orange, but it had a white border to accompany it. The collar and sleeves were bordered with a white stripe. Above the logo of Sahara, three white stars were printed to indicate the three World Cup victories of India. The t-shirt was made from recycled bottles. 8. 2019 The 12th edition of the tournament was hosted by England. The World Cup kept the audience at the edge of their seats. In this edition, the Indian team donned the dark blue jersey. The orange shade was retained, but there are some minor changes. The front side of the t-shirt was darker than the back side and the team name was again written in orange colour and bordered with white shade. The design was subtle in this age of fashion. 9. 2023 The 13th edition of the World Cup is being completely hosted by India. With a major change in the jersey sponsor, Adidas unveiled a sensational kit for team India to wear in the marquee event. The colour of the iconic tricolour is featured on the shoulders as it represents the colours of the Indian flag. Furthermore, the BCCI logo will also feature two stars above the crest representing team India, two World Cup wins. Sporting a light blue colour, hints of orange cane be seen throughout the jersey.
