With the tender running out for team India shirt sponsor Star Networks Pvt Ltd. it seems quite clear that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to either renew the contract or find a new shirt sponsor. This also comes at a time when multi-million dollar deals are being signed across the table between the Indian-based cricket board as well as the shirt sponsors who are also involved in the same.

The Indian cricket team has indeed boasted of some of the best shirt sponsors in the game with Nike being their chief manufacturer since 2003. While it is indeed clear that 2003 has been perhaps one of the best times in cricket. Sahara was perhaps India’s most prominent shirt sponsor, something that saw them be associated with the Indian team for upwards of 15 years.

However, in 2013, it was Star that came in with a whopping 13 crore proposal, something that slammed the door shut on Sahara that was paying just the paltry 3 Crore at the time. However, despite all of this, Sahara went ahead and withdrew the Sahara Parivar sponsorship and were the shirt sponsors for the Bangladesh cricket team at one point in time. While Subroto Roy also went ahead and gave up their ownership of the Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League, it was clear that there was no room for Sahara in Indian cricket anymore.

However, now, with the deal tender with Star almost done, there are a few more and new hats thrown into the ring. This sees the likes of Paytm, the payment wallet app that has been involved in hosting perhaps all the series India is involved in at home become the favorite for the same.
