India scripted two back-to-back away ODI series victories in January, winning 2-1 against Australia and routing New Zealand in the first three games of a five-match series thereafter. This also meant that India have won 14 of their last 18 bilateral/multilateral ODI series since their exit from the semi-final of the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Men in Blue have registered the most number of wins in the 50-overs format in the last four years.

All the three ODIs that India have played against New Zealand so far have been one-sided affairs even though the Black Caps are ranked just one place below Virat Kohli’s men in the ICC’s table. The two wins on the trot at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui in the second and third ODIs also meant that India have now toppled England from the top spot in winning the maximum number of matches since the last World Cup.

India have won 53 games in the last 4 years

India have now won 53 matches in the 50-over format since the 2015 WC with a success percentage of 67 plus. Top-ranked side England are second on the list with 51 victories (success rate of 66.23 per cent) while South Africa (41), New Zealand (39) and Pakistan (35) follow suit. India also played two multilateral series since the last showpiece event – the Champions Trophy in England in 2017 and the Asia Cup in the UAE in 2018 – and they ended as the runners-up in the former and champion in the latter.

Defending world champions Australia could win only 29 matches since their first title win at home, ending behind Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have won 30 games each since their last WC campaign.

To break India’s performance further in this time, they have defeated South Africa and New Zealand eight times each; Australia and Sri Lanka seven times each; Windies and Zimbabwe six times each; Bangladesh four times; Pakistan and England thrice each and Hong Kong once.

The four ODI series that India lost in this period are against Bangladesh in 2015 (1-2); South Africa in 2015 (2-3); Australia in 2016 (1-4) and England in 2018 (1-2).
