Team India support staff will be selected by September 15: Anurag Thakur
BCCI president Anurag Thakur on Sunday said support staff for Team India would be selected before September 15. He said that a meeting would be held with the newly appointed head coach Anil Kumble, the team captain, and other board members after Team India returns from West Indies tour.
“We will decide on the appointment of the coaches for bowling, batting and fielding and other support staff at the meeting,” Thakur said in Coimbatore. He was in Coimbatore for a two-day visit to take part in a yoga programme at Isha Yoga Centre.
There was a lot of eyebrows raised when Kumble was appointed as the head coach for just one year. He said that Kumble’s contract will be extended based on his performance later on. “Based on his performance, the decision on the contract would be taken,” he said.
Talking about using the pink ball for the first time in India, he said it (pink ball) would be used for the Duleep trophy series. “The New Zealand tour of India will be day matches. For now, pink ball will be used only for the Duleep Trophy tournament which will be day and night Tests,” he said.
