The clock is ticking fast and there isn’t a lot of time left before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 begins. The quadrennial tournament that will be played in England and Wales this year has raised the excitement of cricket fans all around the globe. Every team is busy figuring out their best possible combinations and prepping for the tournament. As a part of the same, Team India unveiled its new jersey at an event in Hyderabad on March 1, 2019.
The team’s official kit partner, Nike, played around with the shades of blue for the new jersey. While a darker shade of blue can be seen in between, there is a lighter shade of the same colour on the sleeves. Similar is the design with the trouser where the outer half sports a lighter shade of the colour.
MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli grace the launch event
Apart from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane were present at the launch. Women cricketers, Mithali Raj and Jemimah Rodrigues were a part of the event as well. Apparently, the jersey is a lot lighter and stretchable now.
“I can feel the change. It (new jersey) is so light on the body. It is breathable. I feel there is no restriction at all. It is very stretchable, more than the last jersey. I can’t wait to step on the field with this one,” said skipper Virat Kohli as quoted by Quint.
The jersey also features three stars on the inside back just under the collar. These stars indicate the three World Cups the team has won thus far (two 50-overs and one 20-overs). Also, the date of the victory along with the exact coordinates of the stadium is printed.
“This (three stars) always remind you of the great legacy that we have got. And it is not only this. Beyond that also we had bilateral series and playing cricket in a way we have reached number one ranking in each and every format. These are all motivational factor. Whenever you look at them you get motivated to give that extra 10-15 per cent,” MS Dhoni said sharing his views about the jersey.
