Washington Sundar is just 21 years of age, but has already been on the scene for quite some time. He made his IPL debut in 2017, and he has also been a part of India’s T20 squad since then.

He doesn’t turn the ball a whole lot and neither does he have many variations, but the fact he has still survived in international cricket shows how well he has managed to make up for those deficiencies. His accuracy and discipline are among the very best in the world, and the fact he conceded at less than 6 during the IPL despite bowling during the powerplay is a testament to that.

Last season, Sundar picked up 8 wickets in 15 games while maintaining an economy rate of 5.96. In 29 T20Is, he has picked up 25 wickets at a strike rate of 23.6 and has a brilliant economy of 6.95. In the ongoing series, he has picked up 4 wickets in 3 games and conceded at less than 7. If Chahal’s poor form and Sundar’s excellent form continue, he might become a first-choice player at the expense of the leggie.
