The Kolkata Knight Riders are having a poor time in the 2021 season of the IPL. Their players are unable to perform up to the mark. With just 2 wins in 7 games, they have to pull up their socks during the second half of the tournament. It looks like KKR has been struggling post-Gambhir era. 
With several superstars in their lineup, they must retain the mixture of youth and experience. Currently, they have a World Cup-winning captain in the form of Eoin Morgan. He needs a decent bunch of performers who can stand up to the occasion and play freely. The management should keep him as the captain for the next season. 
Adding on, they should retain their star all-rounder Andre Russell. He can play match-winning knocks on his day and can easily destroy any bowling attack. Sunrisers are currently placed eighth in the points table. They have managed to win just a single game out of seven matches they have played. With a poor run rate of -0.623, they have to play every game just like a knockout match. This has happened because of stat-padding from free players and poor performance from key players.

Talking about Indian retention, SRH can opt for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan. Both of them can play as frontline bowlers during the next season. The management can pick up lesser-known or unpopular faces in the auction to create a decent team. Just like in 2016, where they won the tournament with a decent team.

The Punjab Kings are the most entertaining team in the current edition. Well, this is because sometimes, they manage to win matches in any situation. But sometimes, they lose easily from any favorable conditions. Even with a star-packed squad, they manage to fail.
Currently, Punjab is in the sixth position of the table. With 3 wins out of 8 matches, they do have a chance to make it to the playoffs. But, if they are looking for the future, they will have to make some harsh calls. The inaugural edition champions have started decently this season. Although they failed to win their first match, they have won 3 games out of 7 matches. The <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/a-fan-asks-rr-admin-if-rajasthan-royals-are-signing-lionel-messi-gets-an-apt-response/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Royals </a>are currently placed at the fifth position with a net run rate of -0.190. This time, they might make it to the final four if they manage to play a bit more consistently. 
Royals have one of the finest trios in the form of Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes. But, if they have to retain two of the three, then Ben Stokes might find himself at the auction draft. Jos is RR’s premier batsman along with Sanju. Hence, they should cover up for the batting. 
Talking about the bowling and all-rounder department, the management can retain Jofra and Tewatia. Since his match-winning knock, Tewatia has been consistent with the bat and ball. Jofra, being the premier bowler, has to be retained. This is because he can trouble the batsman at any stage of the innings.

<h3>4. MI: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard</h3>

The defending champions will surely have a tough time during the retention. Mumbai Indians is one of the most complete teams in the history of T20 cricket. Currently, they are in the fourth position at the points table. With 4 wins from 7 games, they would like to win at least 5 from the remaining 7 games during the second half of the tournament. 
There is no doubt that MI management will retain <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/will-virat-kohli-open-with-rohit-sharma-in-t20-world-cup-2021-deep-dasgupta-answers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rohit Sharma.</a> He has been the most successful captain in the history of the IPL. Adding on, stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav have to be retained. The present rule, which states that either 3 Indians and 1 overseas can be retained, will be taken into consideration for MI.
This means MI might have to buy back Pandya brothers and Ishan Kishan. But this is highly unlikely. Pollard should be their first choice for overseas retention. The T20 legend has seen the fall and rise of MI. Hence, he deserves to finish his career with MI.

<h3>3. RCB: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Yuzi Chahal</h3>

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win an IPL trophy. Since the inaugural season, they have been trying hard to end up as the winners but their best performance to date has been finishing as the runners-up. RCB has always had quality players in the squad, but luck has never been on their side. 
Currently, they are in the third position of the table. From seven games, they have won 5 games so far. This time, they should comfortably finish at the top four. But, if they are looking for future options, they have to back their experienced players. 
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are to be retained for sure. But, they can look forward to keeping Maxwell with them. The Aussies allrounder can single-handedly lit the tournament on fire. Talking about the bowling department, they have to retain their most successful bowler in the form of Chahal. RCB’s squad will be stronger than other teams if the management decided to retain these four players. 

<h3>2. CSK: Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar &amp; Moeen Ali</h3>

Well, you might notice few big names being absent in the CSK’s retention. But, if they are looking to dominate IPL in the upcoming years just like MI did in the 2010s, they have to take harsh calls. They have to learn the fact that MS Dhoni has to be replaced sometime. Hence, their youngsters are the future. 
In the auction, they might hunt for Raina, Faf, and Ruturaj. But, they should retain Sam Curran, Moeen Ali as their overseas players. They have been exceptional for the men in yellow so far. CSK’s ability to retain the core will undergo another tough task. If they get through this, they might make a strong team.
