Team wise highest successful run chases in ODIs: There might be many huge chases in ODI Cricket but only a few teams will be happy. Some might chase down 400, some might chase 350 but few teams settle with 325 and 300 as their highest chases. Let’s look at the Team wise highest successful run chases in ODIs: 13. West Indies 298 v South Africa (2004): (© Getty Images) West Indies is the only Test nation which failed to chase down a 300+ target so far in ODI Cricket. Their highest chase came against South Africa at Centurion when they chased down 298 in 2004. South Africa who batted first scored 297 thanks to an unbeaten 95 from Kallis and contributions from other players. Later Chanderpaul kept his side in the chase with a brilliant 92 and Sarwan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 77. Canada 309 v Ireland (2007): Ashish Bagai. (Photo Source: Eddie Norfolk) Canada recorded a 300+ chase when they faced Ireland in 2007 at Nairobi, ahead of the prestigious World Cup. Ireland scored a mammoth 308 with the help of a brilliant 115 from Eoin Morgan after been put into bat. Canada’s chase was kept going with Ashish Bagai leading the chase with a brilliant century. He got support from Abdool Samad (42) and had a century stand with Davison who scored 57. After Bagai departed for 122, Qaiser Ali’s 41-ball 60 finished the chase in the final over. 11. Bangladesh 319 v Scotland (2015): (© Getty Images) Bangladesh recorded their highest run chase in ODIs during the recent World Cup in Australia/New Zealand when they faced Scotland in group match. After been put into bat, with help of a record breaking 156, Scotland put on huge score of 318. Bangladesh got lot of contributions from their batsmen starting from Tamim Iqbal who scored 95. He got a great support from Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim who scored 62 and 60 respectively. At the end, Shakib Al Hasan (52) along with Sabbir Rahman (42) finished the chase with 11 balls to spare. 10. Scotland invited Ireland to bat first, who scored a huge score of 320 with Paul Stirling scoring a quick fire 113 and Alex Cusack and Andrew Poynter scoring fifties. Coetzer and Watts gave a century stand by scoring fifties, especially Coetzer, who scored more than run a ball 89. Josh Davey anchored with an unbeaten 48 and Berrington’s quick fire 56 which came in 23 balls sealed 5-wicket win for the hosts with 9 balls to spare. 9. Sri Lanka 322 v England (2007): Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga. With help of a great knock of 121 from Marcus Trescothick, England posted 321. Later a record opening stand from Sanath Jayasuria and Upal Tharanga made a cake walk for Sri Lanka. The openers’ carnage kept the scoreboard racing as they scored 133 in just first 10 overs. Their stand costed 286 in 191 balls, the highest opening stand in ODI Cricket, which ensured an 8 wicket win for the Lankan’s with 75 balls to spare. 8. Pakistan 327 v Bangladesh (2014): Pakistan 327 v Bangladesh (2014). Bangladesh put on a huge score of 326 after electing to bat first. Anamul Haque anchored the innings with a century and got good support from Kayes, Mominul and Rahim who scored fifties. Shakib gave a perfect end to the innings with a 16-ball 44. In the chase, Pakistan was given a good start by Hazfeez and Shehzad but the innings pace was way below required rate. Shehzad and Fawad shared a century stand for 4th wicket. Shehzad got out for 103 and Fawad scored 74. Afridi put water on Bangladesh hopes with a 25-ball 59. Umar Akmal finished the chase in last over with a boundary. 7. England scored 327 with help of 92 from Trott, 81 from Ian Bell and a quick 59 from Pietersen. Ireland didn’t get off to a great start as they were half way down their innings with 111 for 5. But an amazing innings from Kevin O’ Brien made the match interesting. He recorded the quickest century in World Cup history at that time, in 50 balls. He got support from Cusack with whom he put on a 162 run stand for 6th wicket. O’ Brien got out after scoring 113 but Mooney ensured his side’s victory with 5 balls to spare. 6. (© Getty Images) Zimbabwe had a dream chase when they faced New Zealand at Bulawayo in 2011 when they recorded their 1st 300+ chase, which is still their highest chase in ODI Cricket. New Zealand, who batted first put on 328 with help of centuries from Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson. In chase, Zimbabwe got good stare with Brendon Taylor with 75 and Masakadza with 36 putting on a century stand for 2nd wicket. Later Taibu got to 39-ball 53. Though, they lost quick wickets in middle overs, Max Waller along with Chigumbura put on a century stand. Chigumbura got out for 47 when his side needed 35 from 37. Again a couple of quick wickets were seen falling but Waller, with an unbeaten 99 took his side to a one wicket win on penultimate ball of the innings. 5. Their highest chase of 334 came against England in 2011 at Sydney when the visiting team elected to bat first and scored 333 with help of Trott’s 137. Australia got contributions from all their batsmen starting from Watson (51), Haddin (20), Ferguson (46), Johnson (57), White (20), David Hussey (38) but it was Captain Clarke who played crucial role. He scored 82 in 70 balls and almost stayed till the end. Australia finished the chase in the final over with 3 wickets in hand. 4. With help of Hayden’s heroics, Australia posted 346 on the board. New Zealand were 41 for 4 in 10th over but Craig McMillan turned the game with a brilliant century. He put on a 75 run stand in 46 balls with Fulton (51) and later an amazing 165 run partnership in 147 balls with Brendon McCullum before getting out on 117. Despite losing 3 quick wickets, New Zealand went towards the chase with Mark Gillespie picking up 28 runs in 15 balls. At the end, McCullum saw his side to home with just a wicket and 3 balls to spare with an unbeaten 86. 3. England 350 v New Zealand (2015): England chase down 350 to make a mockery of a mammoth target. New Zealand, who batted first put on 349 with contributions from Guptill (53), McCullum (35), Taylor (42), Elliot (55*), Santner (44) and Kane Williamson, who top scored with 92. Later England openers gave a blistering start by putting on century stand with Hales scoring 67 in just 38 balls. Later Joe Root and Eoin Morgan’s centuries saw the English cruising to a 7 wicket win with 6 overs to spare. 2. India 360 v Australia (2013): (Photo Source: BCCI) India chased down 2 scores of 350 and plus in span of 2 weeks against Australia with their highest came at Jaipur, the first of the 2 huge chases which was still the 2nd highest run chase in ODI history. Australia scored a mammoth 359 with all the top 5 batsmen scoring fifties. Finch, Watson and Maxwell scored 50, 59 and 53 respectively. Phil Hughes with 83 and George Bailey with an unbeaten 92 were top contributors. India lost just a wicket in the huge chase. Their innings consisted Rohit Sharma sharing 2 stands of 175 and plus. Shikhar Dhawan, the other opener got out after scoring 95 whereas Virat Kohli, remained unbeaten on 100 by recording the fastest century by an Indian, which came off just 52 balls. Rohit, who started slowly picked up the pace and remained unbeaten on 141 with India finishing the game with 39 balls to spare. 1. South Africa 435 v Australia: This is the highest world record chase by South Africa. Australia who batted first put on 434, the highest ODI total till the moment South Africa came out to bat. Australian captain Ricky Ponting top scored with a marvelous 164 and received support from Gilchrist (55), Katich (79) and Mike Hussey (81). South Africa lost an early wicket but Gibbs and Captain Smith went uninterrupted through their work. They both shared a stand of 187 in just 125 balls before Smith got out for a quick 92 which came in just 55 balls. Gibbs shared a stand of 94 in 46 balls with De Villiers up next out of which ABD could score just 14 runs shows how berserk Gibbs was going. Gibbs innings came to an end at 175 when his side needed 136 from 109 balls. South African chase kept going with runs coming along with wickets falling at the other end. But it was Boucher who sealed the win an unbeaten fifty by scoring boundary when a was run needed from 2 balls with only 1 wicket in hand.
