Teams are playing smart by replacing poor fielders with better ones, says Mohammad Kaif

The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) has been guilty of finishing matches late in the midnight. Moreover, the captains are being fined as well for not completing the overs in time. But the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, Mohammad Kaif, feels differently as he has pointed out that the teams are replacing their slow fielders with the agile ones and that is the reason, the teams are taking time to complete their 20 overs.
He clearly expressed his displeasure over the strategy opted by the teams and cited a couple of such examples. In the game against the KKR, Piyush Chawla went into the dressing room after bowling his quota and the better fielder, Rinku Singh came in place of him for the rest of the innings. The same happened in their game against the Kings XI Punjab and Kaif felt it is not correct and umpires should look into the matter on the field itself.
“Good fielders are staying while poor fielders are going out. In the Delhi Capitals-Kolkata Knight Riders game, Piyush Chawla went out after bowling his 4 overs and Rinku Singh came in. Similarly, in the match against Kings XI Punjab, Sarfaraz Khan went out saying that he was injured and didn’t come out to field.
“I felt the ball had hit the gloves. Teams are playing smart and making changes which are not right to me. We will bring it up with the umpires as well,” he said in the pre-match press conference.
We should have won the game against KXIP
The Delhi Capitals sensationally choked against the KXIP after they were set to win the game at 144/3 chasing the score of 167. But they lost seven wickets for just eight runs and rather lost the match comfortably. Mohammad Kaif acknowledged the same and added that they needed someone from the middle-order to finish the game without playing rash shots.
“Our top four Indian batsmen are doing well — Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. But we needed someone in the middle-order to finish off games and that is why we purchased Colin Ingram in the auction. Chris Morris has been the X-factor for DC in the last few seasons, but unfortunately, he was run out against KXIP,” Kaif further added.
