After a scintillating contest at Chepauk, the Indian and Australian teams arrived in the city of joy, Kolkata amidst high security. The second One-Day International of the five-match series is slated to be played at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. As the Men In Blue came out of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, there were around 500 fans waiting to welcome them in the city. As players boarded the team bus, there were loud cheers.
The Eden Gardens has a crowd capacity of over 66000 and if the weather keeps up, we may well see a full house as India take on Australia. The weather forecast though suggests it may pour on Thursday. As of now, there has been rainfall but with a colossal drainage system at work on the ground, the play may go on.
Word on ticket sales
An official from the Cricket Association From Bengal gave some news about the ticketing scenario for the upcoming game at Eden Gardens.
“Around 17,000 tickets are still to be sold. There are still more than three days to go and we expect around 12,000 to 17,000 tickets to be sold if the weather holds on,” he was quoted as saying by Business Standard.
On Sunday, Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni combined for a splendid 118-run partnership for the sixth wicket to take India out of the rocks. Their contributions propelled India to a competitive total of 281/7 in their quota of 50 overs.
Australia who were chasing a revised total of 164 in 21 overs failed to hang in at the crease and never looked in a position to win the game. They lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to put runs on the board. In the end, India won by 26 runs (D/L method) and managed to gain a 1-0 lead in the series.
