The members of the Australian cricket team played a hilarious prank on Marnus Labuschagne on April Fool’s Day. The players took part in a Question and Answer session in order to know each other better. In a video, Test captain Tim Paine and Labuschagne were sitting on the couch. Marnus was asked about his cricketing idol and the skipper had to guess the name.
Labuschagne wrote the name of former South African Jacques Kallis and Paine managed to guess it correctly. But then, the idea of playing the prank on his teammate crossed his mind.
“Yeah we will get JL to do it. Yeah, just say, ‘mate you cannot keep going back to your South African heritage. You play Test cricket for Australia. Talking about Jacques Kallis as your mentor and what you did growing up…’.” the 35-year-old Paine said.
Justin Langer, the Aussie head coach, carried on the prank with a serious talk with Labuschagne. “You have to be very careful. When you have got your Australian stuff on and you talk about Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers and all that stuff… you have got to be careful. Otherwise boys aren’t going to be took pumped about it,” Langer said.
Marnus Labuschagne falls prey
Marnus was believed into realising that something was wrong with him. Resigning to the situation, the 25-year-old stated, “All right, that wasn’t my intention. So, what should I do the next time I am asked such questions?”
It was then that Langer asked Marnus to call Steve Smith as his idol. “Just tell them Steve Smith was your idol growing up. Because it (his answer) is going global so you got to be careful,” Langer said.
Paine tried to add more fun, bringing up Marnus’ birthplace South Africa, in the funny discussion. “You keep talking about ‘I am South African’, but no one cares mate,” he said.
In the end, Langer, unable to control his laughter, gave Marnus the shock, saying “Hey Marn, happy April Fool’s day son.”
The video was uploaded by Test Special, who has the rights to shoot the behind the scenes documentary with the Aussies.
