Three-time champion Chennai Super Kings have been battling against tough times for quite some time now. Last week, the team was jolted when the 13 members of their contingent including two players namely Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Adding to the misery, their mainstream batsman Suresh Raina abruptly decided to pull out his name from the cash-rich league citing personal reasons.
The team received another massive blow when the veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also decided to not be a part of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. Yellow Army started their training camp on September 4 after completing the extended quarantine period and testing negative in the rounds of coronavirus tests conducted.
Despite these challenges, the management of Chennai Super Kings is hopeful that they will be able to register a victory for the fourth time in the T20 Championship under the leadership of MS Dhoni. As per the IPL schedule, CSK will be up against Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match of the league on September 19.
