First, he was sacked as the team’s Test vice-captaincy ahead of the South Africa tour and now it has been reported that he could be dropped from India’s scheme of things in red-ball cricket in order to make way for the youngsters. However, Rahane can heave a sigh of relief for the moment after finding a team at the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction. He has been roped in by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of INR 1 crore.

Ajinkya Rahane had represented the Delhi Capitals for two seasons- 2020 and 2021 after he was roped in by the franchise during the IPL 2020 auction after he was released by the 2008 winners Rajasthan Royals. He was one of the key members of the Capitals squad that had made the finals in the 2020 season.
The middle-order batter was not in DC’s mandatory retention list, as a result of which he had to go under the hammer in the two-day event in Bengaluru. The Mumbai cricketer would now be hoping to cash in on his chances in the upcoming season and prove his naysayers wrong.
