Rishabh Pant and his approach towards Test cricket has been talked about enough in the ongoing series between India and England. Earlier, the issue was him getting out poking at the deliveries outside the off-stump but what happened on Day 1 of the ongoing fourth Test left many frustrated. The debate about the left-hander throwing his wicket away when his team needs the most has opened up yet again.

India were reeling at 117/6 when Ajinkya Rahane got out for yet another low score and by then, Rishabh Pant had played a few deliveries showing better resilience than before. However, in the final session, right from the word go, he looked fidgety and unsettled. He stepped out to thump Craig Overton through extra cover for four in the first over after Tea and one felt he was going to attack.

But there seemed to be no clarity in his mind as in the next over, he ran down the pitch to Chris Woakes. The bowler was smart who was expecting this from Pant who was dropped earlier in the over and delivered a slower one. England had set it up pushing the mid-on fielder back and Rishabh Pant just played the atrocious shot only for the ball to land in his hand.

Poor series for Rishabh Pant so far

Rishabh Pant started the five-match Test series against England with decent scores and one would’ve hoped for him to improve his scores. He registered scores of 25, 37 and 22 in the three innings and seemed to be in good touch. But in his last three innings, the left-hander has certainly looked lost. 2, 1 and 9 are his last three scores and clearly, a lot will be said about the way he got out in the first innings of the Oval Test.

Some of the former cricketers who have more often backed Rishabh Pant to play his way also were not happy with the poor shot he played to get out. The fans, needless to say, were disappointed and they slammed the batsman for the way he threw his wicket away.
