Both Ian Botham and Rod Marsh were known to be good mates who spent some gala time together. However, when they met each other on the field, they made sure they present themselves as tough contenders. It is evident from their cheeky verbal exchange that took place in the 1982-1983 Ashes.

When England’s star all-rounder Botham walked to the field, Marsh welcomed him with a humorous statement. ‘How’s your wife and my kids?’ Whereas Botham too was quick enough to give it back to Marsh and came with an even hilarious reply.

Being one of his kind, the England all-rounder replied, ‘The wife’s fine, but the kids are retarded.’ This had yet again portrayed that the Ashes isn’t just a contest between the bat and ball but is an ultimate war between England and Australia for the prestigious trophy, wherein the players do not mind entering into a war of words.
