The back is holding up, it's not getting worse says MS Dhoni
Dhoni was forced to miss a match for Chennai Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad after he experienced back spasms.
MS Dhoni might be old in terms of cricket lingo at the age of 37 years old, but is still one of the fastest runners between the wickets and one of the fittest when it comes to playing under testing conditions. However, despite his rough exterior, Dhoni has had problems with his back throughout his career and at this point in time, the injury has returned to create problems for him in the ongoing IPL.
Dhoni was forced to miss a match for Chennai Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad after he experienced back spasms. This was enough for the cricket fraternity to be concerned about the wicketkeeper-batsman, who has a crucial part to play in India’s World Cup 2019 campaign. Dhoni has 314 runs in the 9 matches he has played in the IPL so far and that has come at an astonishing average of 104.66 and is delivering big time for his franchise.
Dhoni gives an update on his back issue
MS Dhoni was asked about his back issue after CSK’s recent match against Sunrisers, which they won thanks to a brilliant 96 from Shane Watson. “The back is holding up, it’s not getting worse, with the World Cup coming up, can’t afford that, because that’s too important,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
The BCCI has directed World Cup-bound players to take time off from the IPL to keep themselves ready and fresh for the mega ICC event. Dhoni was asked about taking time out from the ongoing tournament, in which CSK has almost confirmed their berth for the playoffs with 8 wins in 11 matches and 16 points.
The CSK skipper admitted that if the issue worsens, he would take time off, but pointed out that most times a player at the international level plays with some niggle or the other as it is impossible to be 100% fit. “If it becomes worse, I certainly take some time off but at this level, you play with some niggle or the other. Because if you wait to get fully fit, then there will be a gap of five years between two matches,” Dhoni said.
Chennai continued their streak of making it into the playoffs in all the IPL editions and have a couple of days before squaring off against Mumbai Indians at Chepauk on Friday.
