The Bat, The Ball and Some Cricketing Romance: Busy schedule, fame, glamour oversea tours and controversies, life of a cricketer is not that easy but we find our way to love. Love finds its way to us. Cricketers are always discussed under the topics of how much runs they scored, how many wickets they took, their records, achievements and all the on field action. Here’s something about them with which each one of us can connect. A fairy tale love story that has kept them going midst the busy life they have. 1. Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar: Sachin Tendulkar with his wife Anjali Mehta. (Photo Source: rediff.com) The story of love at first sight, Mumbai International Airport, Sachin was returning from his first international cricket tour of New Zealand in 1990, Anjali was there to receive her mother, they saw each other for the very first time and that very moment Anjali fell for him and so did our Master Blaster the two were in love from that very moment. Their second meeting was at a friend’s house what Sachin liked about Anjali was her unawareness about the game, being a medical student she was too much into her studies, and she knew nothing about cricket! She knew Sachin as a person but did not know who Sachin the cricketer was! Its beautiful when a person loves you not for what you do, but for what you are. Every person with fame expects this from his partner a love that doesn’t come because his popularity. Well then they dated for 5 long years, and it was not at all easy. It was tough for them to go out on an uninterrupted date, Anjali first went to Sachin’s house disguised as a journalist. He, also played his part, went on a movie date in disguise unfortunately his glasses fell and within no time he was surrounded by fans and the couple had to be escorted out. Anjali sent letters to him when her love was on international tours to save bills. They got married on 24th May 1995, it’s been 20 years and they are still going strong supporting each other through thick and thins they have seen each other grow in their careers and life. Now, parents of two children Sachin and Anjali have a happy family. She left her job of a pediatrician to take care of their children because Sachin always kept busy and her sacrifice allowed Tendulkar to pursue his cricketing dream. Anjali is 6 years elder to Sachin but their age has never been a matter of concern. With sacrifices and understanding, love found its way to our ‘master blaster’. Sourav fell in love with best friend and the girl next door Dona. Their house shared the same boundary, he played and grew up together. Sourav, waited around her school to get a glimpse of her, he was head over heels foe Dona. But their story was not a cake walk. Their families drifted apart and were not in talking terms and connection over some issues, but that didn’t distance the love birds. She went to be a spectator for his matches and he watched her perform Odissi recitals. Their families wouldn’t accept any relation amongst them it was a hard time for both of them but, love is bigger than hate and they proved it. The cute couple kept their secret to themselves as the situation demanded. Sourav’s family was inflexible about a non- Brahmin girl being their daughter-in-law Dada had his plans and was sure about spending his life with his love. After his awesome performance in his test debut at Lords he came back with a decision of getting married. His house was celebrating his success, when he called Moloy Banerjee a highly respected cricketer in Bengal and poured down his secret. Moloy agreed to help Sourav and on 12th August 1996 they got hitched in Banerjee’s home by the registrar. After they broke the news to their families everything went to being chaotic but gradually they accepted their decision and they got married with all the rituals and blessings on 21st February 1997. Its been 18 years that they are together and the couple is blessed with a daughter and are living their fairy tale. 3. Rahul and Vijeeta Dravid: Rahul and Vijeeta Dravid. (Photo Source: Google) Rahul, being the kind of person he is, simple and shy has a completely different story. His life partner was chosen by his family, Vijeeta is the daughter of a very close family friend of Mr. Dravid. The mamma’s boy was wowed by simple and studios Vijeeta. Their families have known each other 35 years and as Vijeeta’s father said: “who wouldn’t want a son-in-law like Rahul”. When the marriage was on cards she started to be audience to his games. The girl, who had no idea about cricket started learning and observing the game to know what her to be husband did “at work”. They tied the knot on 4th May 2003. 12 years of a beautiful marriage with two kids one of them aspires to be a cricketer. The two of them has seen through some tough phases, one during Dravid’s retirement. Vijeeta has always respected his love for the game and his schedule and lone times before and after the game. These two are a proof of how an arranged marriage turns into love. 4. Suresh and Priyanka Raina: Suresh and Priyanka Raina. Suddenly, they meet after years at the airport both going away for their work and the 5 minute conversation lead to them getting hitched. Raina says he believes this more of an arranged marriage than love. He was out on his tour to Australia when his mother called him up to inform that she had chosen him a life partner. The love part came later, though it came hard and he fell for her mother’s choice and got married in no time. Though Priyanka is a soccer fan and has no clue about cricket her father was Raina’s cricket coach back in Ghaziabad. Their families share a very close bond. The couple who got married on 3rd of April 2015 have just stepped into a life together with blessings and are off for their honeymoon to Paris at the moment. 5. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma: Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma.(Photo Source: Getty Images) Cricket meets Bollywood, the heartthrob of Indian Cricket and one of the Diva, who is also one of the finest actors in Bollywood today Virat and Anushka have been the hot topic of discussion for quite a long time now. They both met while shooting for a TV commercial back in 2013 after which they were spotted together in many social events and in no time they were rumored to be dating. They were asked questions but never accepted their relationship initially, but this didn’t stop them from stealing time for each other. Anushka flew to New Zealand when the Indian team was there as well and both of them strolled around the country hand in hand you could see the love dwelling. Virat came down to Udaipur to wish his lady on her birthday while she was shooting for a film. Their story received an official approval when both of them answered media about their relationship but didn’t talk about it as it was a personal affair. Virat blew a flying kiss to Anushka after scoring a century when she cheered him amongst the audience he was also seen appreciating his love for her movies via twitter. These two have fought with the world for each other. Many controversies aroused when media has gone on to report things against either of them; both of them have been possessive and protective towards their partner and the relationship which was a true showcase of their bond. This young couple has a sizzling chemistry and are shining brighter. Somebody must be curiously noting all this down with a pen in hand.
