MS Dhoni has transcended the level of being just a player and has become somewhat of an icon, akin to the level of Sachin Tendulkar. The Ranchi-born cricketer’s record speaks for itself with two World Cups to his name, one Champions Trophy, numerous other important wins and a brilliant record at home.
However, fans are missing him on the field, as Dhoni has not played for India since July of 2019. He has spent his time serving the Indian armed forces and vacationing in various spots in the world and bringing in the new year with his family at home. He will be seen in the yellow jersey for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL edition and will have a chance to make a claim for the Indian team place for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
His India and CSK teammate Suresh Raina has seen him from close quarters and he was the first one to know about the birth of Dhoni’s daughter and when the Indian captain decided to retire from Test cricket in Australia in 2014. Raina rated MS Dhoni as the best captain India ever had and gave his reasons for the same.
‘I think we have the best captain’: Raina on MS Dhoni
“I think we have the best captain who has changed the Indian team like anything. Now we have that same aura in our dressing room,” Raina said on ‘The Super Kings show’ on Star Sports Tamil. Raina has been Dhoni’s deputy in the Chennai IPL team since its inception in 2008 and the duo has achieved amazing things for the franchise including lifting the title three times and are the only team to win it back to back.
Meanwhile, Raina also spoke on how he expects the Chepauk to be filled to the brim after the Chennai Municipal Corporation declared that the three stands that were taped off due to issues with the TNCA, will be opened for this edition of the IPL. “We have all the seats available. Hopefully, we’ll have more fans now so that there is it will be more energy on the field,” Raina added.
Suresh Raina was also excited about the new additions to the CSK family-like Piyush Chawla, Josh Hazlewood, Sam Curran, and R Sai Kishore. He said these youngsters will gel with the seniors in the franchise and hopefully lead the team to another IPL title.
