MS Dhoni took a big decision in 2017 of stepping down from the captaincy of Indian limited-overs sides but continued his career as a player and no less a mentor of the team in the field under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Dhoni’s batting turned out to be a crucial factor for India during critical stages as his experience made the difference while his glove work behind the stumps was as sharp as ever throughout the year.

List of milestones that were achieved by MS Dhoni in the International cricket in 2017:

51 – Dhoni became the first Indian and only the 3rd player after Shoaib Malik (61) and Shahid Afridi (98) to be a part of 50 wins in T20I format.


76 – Dhoni broke the record of most number of not outs in ODI cricket. He went past Chaminda Vass and Shaun Pollock’s 73 not outs in this format.


76 – MS Dhoni holds the record for most number of fielding dismissals in the T20I format. He made 76 dismissals in this format with 47 catches and 29 stumpings. He went ahead of AB de Villiers who made 72 fielding dismissals in T20Is.


105 – MS Dhoni became the first player to affect 100 stumpings in the ODI cricket. He surpassed Kumar Sangakkara’s 99 stumpings in this format during the Sri Lanka tour.


130 – Number of times MS Dhoni remained unbeaten in International cricket which are the most by any player. He went past Muttiah Muralitharan’s 119 not outs across formats during the Sri Lankan tour only.

203 – MS Dhoni became the 2nd wicketkeeper in the Twenty20 format after Kamran Akmal (207) to affect 200 dismissals. Dhoni affected 70 stumpings and taken 133 catches behind the stumps in the T20 format so far.


216 – Dhoni became the first Indian and one of the six players to hit 200 sixes in ODI cricket. He hit 216 sixes in his ODI career so far only behind three other players.


312 – He completed 300 appearances in ODI format to become the 6th Indian and 20th player overall to feature in 300 ODIs. He is also the 2nd wicketkeeper with this feat after Kumar Sangakkara (360).


488 – Dhoni became the most capped wicketkeeper in International cricket by featuring in 488 matches as a keeper. He went past Mark Boucher’s 466 matches as a wicketkeeper across formats.


4390 – MS Dhoni became the 2nd player after Sachin Tendulkar to score 4000 ODI runs on Indian soil. He is overall the 9th player to aggregate 4000 ODI runs in a country.
