Afghanistan cricket has grown rapidly over the last few years. They have already won two Test matches in four outings and are improving leaps and bounds as usual in the shorter forms of the game. Even during the 50-over World Cup last year, they had come extremely close to beating their neighbours India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The country is brimming with talent and the ongoing Shpageeza Cricket League is a testament to it as well. Looking at same and their progress so far, Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan reckons that the team’s biggest achievement will be to win the T20 World Cup now. Rather he also stressed the fact that the fans back home are also expected them to do the same.

“I think the biggest achievement [for Afghanistan] should be, right now, what the team is looking for, what the country is expecting is, to win the T20 World Cup, because we have all the skills, talent, and we just need to have that belief in ourselves that we can do it. Talent-wise we are so good, we have the spinners, we have the fast bowlers, we have the batting skills as well to do it,” the leggie said while speaking to Ravi Ashwin on his show ‘DRS with Ash’.

Rashid Khan wants Afghanistan to play regular matches against top teams

However, Rashid Khan feels that the team will only improve in the near future if they play more matches against the top teams. Meanwhile, as of now, Afghanistan is scheduled to tour Australia for one-off Test in December and if both the boards are to be believed, it is going ahead amidst India’s visit down under later in the month.

The more they play against top nations, the sooner they will come close to achieving their dream of winning the T20 World Cup according to Rashid Khan. “The moment we play more series with them [the best teams in the world], we can become a better team. We are very famous for T20 players, but inshallah, that is a dream of mine and a dream of the country that one day we will win the T20 title and that will be the biggest achievement for Afghanistan cricket and for us as well,” he further added.

The 21-year-old will be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to start from September 19. He will be plying his trade for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and will be hoping to do well after a decent outing in the CPL.
