Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum announced his retirement from international cricket in 2016, after smacking the fastest Test century in just 54 balls against Australia at Hagley Oval. However, the flamboyant opener is still playing professional cricket in the various T20 leagues around the world and is still striking the best bowlers out of the park.
McCullum is known as one of the finest wicket-keepers to have donned the gloves for his national team in all the three formats of the game. Along with that his aggressive and fearless attitude of hitting some of the best bowlers was absolutely sensational. He had a different aura and charm that made him the nucleus of the new-age New Zealand team.
The secrets behind the tattoos on McCullum’s arm
He has inked several tattoos on his body, especially on his upper arm – his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) posted what each of his tattoos symbolizes. The first tattoo on his upper arm reads ‘CXXVI’, which is the symbol for his ODI Cap No. 126 while playing for the national team. He played 260 ODIs for New Zealand and scored 6083 runs at an impressive strike rate of more than 96 as has smashed 5 hundreds and 32 half-centuries.
The next tattoo reads ‘XLII’, which was the jersey number 42 of the former Kiwi cricketer. Another tattoo is ‘CCXXIV’ characters his maiden Test Cap number 224. McCullum has represented New Zealand in 101 Tests during which he amassed 6453 runs at an average of 38.64, which includes an incredible triple-hundred against India, along with a fine tally of 12 hundreds and 31 fifties in the longest format of the game.
Bazz has also inked a Silver Fern on his chest which symbolizes the mark of Kiwi Pride. He has always been one of the most respected gentlemen of the game who played the game of cricket with a lot of pride and honour. McCullum has also got a special wedding ring inked on his left ring finger, as he cannot wear his original wedding ring while playing the game.
