Jofra Archer’s name has arguably been the most-discussed name of the cricketing fraternity in recent times. The lad has been performing like an absolute beast in the cricketing leagues of all over the world and has given some of the top-class batsmen, a run for their money. This has also earned him an innumerable amount of appreciation and fame.

The Barbadian born made it to the headlines once again when the England Cricket Board announced its 15-man preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup on Wednesday. The squad was quite predictable and consisted of some usual names. Howbeit, what raised the eyebrows of cricket pundits was the omission of Jofra Archer from this squad. The 24-year old failed to make the cut in the preliminary squad for the World Cup 2019 which will kick off on 30th May 2019.

Nonetheless, Jofra, who is currently playing the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals, has been named in the 17-man squad of the England cricket team, which will take on Pakistan, right before the World Cup. Thereby, ECB chief selector, Ed Smith asked Archer to return England by 26th April, leaving the IPL midway. This news also gives a clear indication that despite not selecting him in the preliminary squad, ECB still has Jofra Archer in its World Cup plans and the speedster is likely to make it to the World Cup 2019 eventually.

The selection panel was impressed by Archer’s performance

Ed Smith also had his take over Archer’s fortunes regarding the World Cup. Chief selector seemed quite impressed with the Sussex cricketer and showered heaps of praise on him. He also gave positive signs about the medium-pacer’s selection in the WC squad.

“The selection panel was impressed with Jofra Archer’s performances in domestic and franchise cricket. He is a very talented and exciting cricketer,” Smith said to the reporters during the press conference on Wednesday.

While talking further about the chances of players who have been named in the 17-man squad which will lock horns with Pakistan, the former English cricketer said, “However, all 17 players named in the Royal London ODI against Pakistan can stake a claim to be in the final 15-man squad, finalised at the end of that series.”
