Kevin Pietersen dropped by England

Following the England’s whitewash by Australia in Ashes by 5-0, England sacked its premier batsmen Kevin Pietersen. Issues of team ethics and mutual trust were cited as reasons for sacking the batsmen. It was evident that KP did not get any support from England captain Alastair Cook.

KP played 100 plus test matches for England and scored <a title="Eight Thousand Club: Fastest 10 to reach 8000 ODI runs" href="http://www.crictracker.com/eight-thousand-club-fastest-10-to-reach-8000-odi-runs/" target="_blank">8000 plus runs</a>. Later in the year, KP came up with his autobiography and lashed out at Coach Andy Flower and team-mate Matt Prior. In Feb 2014, South Africa hosted Australia for a three match test series. It was a contest keenly followed by all the fans across the globe as the world’s two best sides were pitted against each other.

Australia drew the first blood and won the first game to go one up in the series but South Africa came back well to win the next game. In the third and final game Australia pressed on the paddle to win the series 2-1. David Warner hit three centuries and two half centuries in his six innings to prove his metal as Test batsman. Sri Lanka created history by winning Test series for the first time in England. Sri Lanka played two tests and won the series by 1-0. While the first game was a thrilling draw as Sri Lanka managed to sneak a draw with one wicket to spare but in the second game, England faced a similar task of drawing the game on the last day but Sri Lanka managed to pick up all English wickets with two balls to spare.

Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews was the star performer with his batting and bowling skills and also won accolades for his captaincy.

Cricket administration was in news throughout the year, but for wrong reasons. Spot fixing probe in <a title="Shuffle, reshuffle &amp; Released player for the IPL 2015" href="http://www.crictracker.com/shuffle-reshuffle-released-player-for-the-ipl-2015/" target="_blank">IPL</a> indicated Gurunathan Meiyappan’s involvement. This put then BCCI president N. Srinivasan also under scanner.

India’s top court formed a committee to do a complete investigation of the matter. The top courtsuspended N. Srinivasan from working as BCCI head in order to complete the probe in IPL scandal.Later in the year, N. Srinivasan went on to become ICC chairman.

Whole of the cricketing world was stunned when the three national boards of India, England and Australia took powers in their hands aiming for major share of revenues worldwide. In addition to revenues, this meant ICC will just act as a puppet of these three boards.

Tests on his bowling action in Brisbane found that the 36-year-old spinner straightened his arm by more than 15 degree.

Saeed Ajmal has been a mystery man for all of cricket playing nations with most of the batsmen not able to read him and Pakistan banks on Ajmal in all the formats of the game. It has been reported that Ajmal is working hard to correct his action and hopefully Pakistan will be able to include him in World Cup XI.

On Nov 27, 2014 Cricket witnessed one of the saddest moment in its history when Australian cricketer Phil Hughes passed away. Phil was hit on the back of his head by a bouncer from NSW pacer Sean Abbott in a Sheffield Shield game.
