'The headline could be much better than this' - Dinesh Karthik unimpressed with ECB for not highlighting Rishabh Pant's knock
Pant scored an excellent hundred on Day 1 of the Test match between England and India.
Senior Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik was left unimpressed after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) uploaded the highlights video of Day 1 of the Test match being played between India and the Three Lions at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
After the play of Day 1 ended, the ECB shared the highlight video on its social media platforms with the caption reading “Joe Root dismisses dominant Pant”. To note, Pant smashed the England bowling line-up as the left-handed batter scored 146 runs in just 111 deliveries smashing 20 fours and four sixes. However, the left-handed batter was scalped by Joe Root after trying to hit him for a boundary. Meanwhile, Karthik felt that the ECB should have highlighted Pant’s innings a little more.
That knock by Rishabh Pant landed the quality of Test cricket played by both sides: Karthik wrote on Twitter
Karthik took to Twitter and wrote, “After such an engrossing, enthralling days’ play, I’m sure the headline could be much better and more apt than this @ECB_cricket That knock by @RishabhPant17 and the quality of test cricket played by both side were as good as it can be and this is how you sum up a day #ENGvIND,”
It must be noted that team India was 98/5 when Pant and Ravindra Jadeja joined each other at the crease and stitched a vital partnership of 222 runs. Pant was more of an aggressor between the two batters as the wicketkeeper-batter smashed English bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Coming to Day 2, Jadeja completed his excellent hundred before skipper Jasprit Bumrah took a liking to veteran pacer Stuart Broad and smashed him for 35 runs in one over. As a result, the visitors crossed the 400-run mark in their first innings. The Three Lions have started cautiously in their innings but lost the wicket of opener Alex Lees with Bumrah scalping the first wicket for his side. At present, Zak Crawley is joined by Ollie Pope at the crease with early Lunch being taken on Day 2.
