Steve Smith, the former Aussie skipper is once again ready to lead a team but this time it’s not Australia but Welsh fire. The 30-year-old has been appointed as the skipper of the team in the maiden season of “The Hundred” tournament that is slated to begin from 17th of July. And, he has shared his feelings after getting such a big responsibility from his team.
Smith was sacked from the national team’s captaincy after he was found guilty in the infamous ball-tampering scandal that took place during a Test match against South Africa back in 2018. He was removed from captaincy duties since then. It was a big blow for Steve Smith and he is still not given his post back in the national team.

However, his ban was limited to Cricket Australia, so he got an opportunity to show his leadership qualities in IPL 2019 as he led his team Rajasthan Royals for about six games. Now, there is a news that Welsh Fire has appointed Smith as their skipper for the maiden season of “The Hundred” tournament. And, this announcement means that he will lead the star-studded line up that comprises of players like Tom Banton, Mitchell Starc and Jonny Bairstow.
Later on, Steve Smith also said that it is an honor to lead s strong side like Welsh Fire in the first season of the tournament. He also talked about the team and said that Tom Banton is an exciting player followed by a bowler like Mitchell Starc who always gives a much-needed strength to the team.
“It’s an honour to be asked to captain Welsh Fire in the first year of The Hundred. Our squad looks super strong with a great group of players who’ve dominated the international and domestic scenes for the past few years. Tom Banton is one of the most exciting young players in the world right now and Mitchell Starc brings the X-factor with the ball, so we’re looking to put on an amazing show for the fans in Cardiff,” Steve Smith said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
