The Hundred Men’s 2022, Match 21 Review: Manchester Originals record thumping win in high-scoring encounter

Manchester Originals came out on the winning end in an entertaining game that saw 24 sixes being hit against the Northern Superchargers in Match 21 of the Hundred Men‘s 2022 fixture. With the win, Manchester Originals have moved into the third position in the points table with three wins in six games while Superchargers occupy the sixth position with two wins in six games.

Earlier in the game, Northern Superchargers opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the openers Phil Salt and Laurie Evans got off the blocks quickly for the Manchester Originals. The duo stitched a 100-run partnership for the first wicket in no time and set the platform for a terrific total to be posted. Salt scored a 25-ball 55 with five sixes and three fours while Evans cut loose with a 19-ball 45. The pair perished after the 100-run mark and Tristan Stubbs carried the momentum into the innings.

Paul Walter’s all-round cameo helps Manchester Originals hugely

The South African scored a 23-ball 46, including five sixes, while Andre Russell could score only a run-a-ball 17 in his innings. However, Paul Walter provided the final flourish with two sixes and two fours in his 12-ball 26 and it meant that the Manchester Originals got to a hefty total of 208 for 5 in their innings. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers going for 42 and managing two dismissals in his spell while all other bowlers were ripped apart.

In reply, Northern Superchargers lost their skipper Faf du Plessis early for six while Adam Lyth took on the bowling straightaway. Lyth’s 24-ball 46 gave the start that the Superchargers needed. However, they required similar performances down the order to pose a threat to the total. Willey and Harry Brook could not do much damage and it was down to Adam Hose to come up with a special innings.

Hose and David Wiese kept their side in the hunt for a while with a breathtaking partnership. However, the equation was too difficult to take them home. Hose gave a real scare in the end with a 27-ball 59 which included three sixes and six fours while Wiese chipped in with a handy 25-run knock. The Northern Superchargers fell short by 23 runs as Walter picked up a three-wicket haul in his economic spell while Joshua Little had two in his pocket.
