The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has stirred controversy as many believe that the tournament should be scrapped considering the grim situation in the country. India is currently reporting more than three lakh positive coronavirus cases daily and the second Covid-19 wave has caused a medical emergency.

Rajasthan Royals’ celebrated pacer Jaydev Unadkat also joined the debate surrounding the IPL 2021 as he opined on whether the tournament should be continued or not. Though Unadkat asserted that living in a bio bubble in such tough times is not easy, he believes that the tournament should continue as the livelihood of a lot of people depend on the league.

Jaydev detailed his opinion on the issue saying that the Indian Premier League is not an entertainment this year. The T20 Championship is just a source of income for many players, support staff, and many other people associated with the league.

“The IPL is not entertainment. There is no entertainment this year whatsoever. It’s work for us. It’s our livelihood and also helps thousands who are part of the ecosystem,” Jaydev Unadkat told Sports today

Further in the interaction, the RR seamer revealed that even one of his family members contracted coronavirus. Unadkat believes that the cricketers can help spread awareness regarding Covid-19. He also reckoned that the cricket players can’t be the doctors but can definitely help in curbing the spread of the virus by educating the Indian citizens.

“My family was infected and I did what all of us are doing. Tried getting them medicines and medical help. We are in this together. If we can spread the message using our platform as cricketers that’s our way to help. We can’t be doctors. But we can definitely be helpers,” he said.

As far as Rajasthan Royals are concerned, the team isn’t having an ideal outing. They have been dealt with a massive blow as their overseas resources are getting exhausted. Jofra Archer didn’t travel to India due to his injury while Ben Stokes has also been ruled of the tournament due to an injury. Meanwhile, Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone left the bio bubble citing bubble fatigue.
