Jasprit Bumrah’s rise in international cricket has been meteoric. Despite his limited experience, his skills with the ball have meant that he has led the team’s bowling attack and has cemented his position in the national side as one of the first-choice pacers regardless of the format.

However, like any other cricketer, Bumrah has also been under situations where form has eluded him. While going wicketless for a couple of innings in succession might not be too unusual for an ordinary bowler, for someone of Bumrah’s standard, that is certainly a rarity. Owing to the high standards set by himself, Bumrah found himself amid a slew of questions after merely three wicketless innings, which included the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.

However, coming back to his devastating best, the pacer has already bagged 12 wickets in the ongoing five-Test series against England in merely two fixtures. Acknowledging his efforts and revealing the major reason behind Bumrah not reaping success in the WTC final, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar stated that not bowling long enough was the primary reason why he did not bag wickets.

“I felt before the WTC final, Bumrah didn’t have enough long spells under his belt. He is the kind of bowler who is like the more he bowls, the better he gets. He doesn’t only have a big heart but also has brains and we saw that yesterday when he outsmarted Ollie Robinson with a brilliant slower ball to dismiss him after peppering him with a few short balls,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying by CricFit.

India’s pace attack is the best in the world: Sachin Tendulkar

Apart from Bumrah’s exploits, Tendulkar was effusive in praise if India’s entire bowling attack after they bundled England out at Lord’s for 120 during a 272-run chase to clinch a historic 151-run win.

“Today this bowling attack is the best in the world. It’s a reflection of talent, discipline and ability to work hard on fitness and wanting to learn more. I don’t like comparisons across eras because bowling attacks should also be judged by batters who are batting against them. Be it during Kapil’s or Srinath’s or Zaheer’s generation, there were different batsmen facing them,” Tendulkar concluded.
