The rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli takes a new turn as an old Twitter activity resurfaces
The incident clearly shows that Rohit Sharma has some unsolved issues with Virat Kohli.
Various issues have been floating around the Indian team ever since the semi-final loss of the 2019 World Cup. Former players have openly criticized the selection panel and team management for their poor decision-making skills. The retirement plans of India’s World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni caused a furor. Even skipper Virat Kohli’s leadership has been questioned.
Still, the Indian selectors went ahead and picked their squad for the West Indies tour. Kohli was retained as skipper and some of the youngsters made their way to the Indian team. There were some notable omissions but again the chief selector, MSK Prasad justified his decisions with vague explanations.
After all this, the most interesting piece of news which has been doing the rounds is probably the supposed rift between two senior players of the side. Right after the championship journey, there were reports that Virat Kohli and his deputy, Rohit Sharma are not on good terms.
It all started with Hitman unfollowing his skipper’s wife, Anushka Sharma on Instagram. Then she came up with a cryptic message which further added the fuel to the fire. Though the skipper has denied such allegations in his recent press conference the history is pointing to another direction.
The ghost from the past
Rohit and Virat are two of the batting stalwarts of the current Indian team. They have often praised each other for their international success. However, Kohli has been a dominant force across formats, unlike Rohit who is yet to find his feet in red-ball cricket.
One such instance when Hitman was dropped from the Test squad against England in 2018, many of the fans were disappointed to see the omission of Sharma from the team. It was an important overseas trip and the selectors even denied the family members to accompany the stars for the first two games of the series.
Still, when Kohli’s team was invited to the high commission of London, Anushka was seen in the photo session of the Indian side. Immediately the social media started taking potshots at BCCI and the Indian skipper for breaking the rules. Among them, one tweet was a rib-tickler as he hinted of having at least one Sharma in the team.
He was pointing to the famous Indian quote “Sharmaji ka Ladka” who is meant to be best in all aspects. At first, Rohit Sharma liked the tweet but once when he realized the consequences he quickly disliked it. The incident clearly shows that Rohit Sharma has some unsolved issues with Virat Kohli.
