The show must go on, says Suryakumar Yadav after Duleep Trophy snub
Surya averages 43 in first-class cricket and has been plundering runs in the domestic circuit.
The selection panel led by MSK Prasad announced three squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy on Tuesday. A total of 44 players were picked with Shubman Gill, Faiz Fazal and Priyank Panchal selected as captains of India Blue, India Green and India Red. While some of the players have been rewarded for their consistent show, few deserving cricketers still haven’t got the chance and one of them is Suryakumar Yadav who is plundering runs in the domestic circuit.
The Mumbai born player is one of the most consistent batsmen for his team. Having made his first-class debut way back in 2010, Surya has played 72 four-day matches, 77 List-A games and a mammoth 138 T20 matches. In the longest format, he has amassed 4818 runs at an impeccable average of 43 with 12 centuries and 24 fifty-plus scores.
However, he came into the limelight during the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year while opening the innings for Mumbai Indians (MI). Suryakumar Yadav scored 512 runs in the team’s title-winning run and was amongst the top run-getters of the season.
Surya’s reply to a fan
Not that Suryakumar Yadav is a T20 specialist but his heroics in the IPL made the world to take notice of his whole career. With an average of 43 in the first-class cricket, the Mumbai lad deserves an opportunity to play in the tournaments like Duleep Trophy and this is what one of the fans highlighted on Twitter.
The fan pointed out the first-class averages of the three selectors who picked the teams and how they ignored the likes of Manoj Tiwary and Suryakumar Yadav amongst others. Tiwary has already vented out his frustration on Twitter after the Duleep Trophy squad selection. However, when Surya saw the tweet, he said that he wasn’t sure about his first-class average.
Though Surya didn’t look too fussed about his non-selection and replied stating that the show must go on. But he deleted the tweet later to not involve himself in any controversy.
